Statement by Bishop-elect Brian Nunes || July 18, 2023

Good morning, my name is Father Brian Nunes,

It is hard to put into words how I felt when I heard that the Holy Father had named me a new bishop.

I feel incredibly grateful: to God, first of all, and to Pope Francis, and in a special way to Archbishop Gomez, for his trust in letting me share and collaborate in his ministry.

For the past eight years, I have been blessed to work with so many dedicated individuals at the Archdiocese, first during my time as the Archbishop’s Priest Secretary, then as Vice Chancellor and most recently as Vicar General. These individuals serving at the Archdiocese perform wonderful, essential ministries that help support our parishes and schools.

With this new role, I feel excited about being able to serve even more people, a larger segment of the Church.

I also feel nervous, because even though it’s a great honor, it’s also a huge responsibility. It’s all very surreal. So, I ask for your prayers because I’m going to need them. It’s going to take more than my own strength to serve God’s people in this new way.

Gracias.

Thank you.
